I know some you Tampa Bay Parrot Heads like to bowl and some of you even participated last year so here it is again. The 3rd Annual Fruitcakes in the Alley sponsored by our neighbors that Fins to the East…. Parrot Heads of Central Florida! There is still time to get in on the early registration. The 3rd Annual Fruitcakes in the Alley Bowling Tournament will be held on January 28-30, 2011 in Altamonte Springs, Florida (suburb of Orlando)! Check out our event web site at http://www.fruitcakesinthealley.com/
This is an incredibly fun event, featuring much more than a bowling tournament. It also includes music by 4 live tropical rock bands and a DJ, 3 meals, a cool event T-shirt, and many chances to win bowling prizes and very valuable auction and raffle prizes, including 2 pairs of airline tickets (Southwest and Allegiant Airlines), gift certificates for hotel stays, a 1 week stay in Siesta Key, a wine tasting for 25 people, dinner gift certificates, and many exciting gift baskets!
This year, our bands are:
Jim Morris and The Big Bamboo Band
Jack Mosley and Band
Captain Josh
Jimi Pappas
Plus, our own club DJ, deciBel
Register at http://www.fruitcakesinthealley.com/ The early registration discount ends on January 3, 2011. After that, the price goes up by $10 per person. So far, we have members of 8 different Parrot Head clubs signed up! This event will sell out soon!

In the first 2 years, we raised over $25,000 for The Arthritis Foundation on behalf of Kids with Arthritis. This year, all of our funds are being matched dollar-for-dollar by a private foundation which is VERY exciting for us!

My husband and Phirst Dude George and I are the Chair Parrots and we started this to create a fun regional event, but we are also doing it in memory of his late daughter, Jennifer, who passed away at age 26 in 2004 after a life-long battle with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. She had one of the worst-ever documented cases. So, this is truly a labor of love that has turned into a wonderful, fun event for over 200 people a year that does so much good for so many kids. It is truly a Party with a Purpose!

At the end of January, we know a lot of you will be ready for a winter break to come to Florida! If you cannot attend, you can still donate at the event web site listed above!

Happy Holidays & Meetings

Helloooooooooooooooo Tampa Bay Parrot Heads!

What a PHabulous Holiday Party this past weekend  we had at the beautiful Treasure Island Community Center! We send out our thanks and gratitude for the volunteers that helped to clean-up and set-up and for those that opened their hearts to give to Toys for Tots, Animal Shelter and the Food Bank. We raised over $5,000 in goods to help with someone's Holiday season. We also want to say a special thanks to Mikeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee & Karen they took all of the leftover food that members prepared for our Christmas Party and delivered it at about 1 AM to homeless people sleeping around churches and office buildings around downtown St. Pete. The people were very thankful. They also will be passing the toys on to the foster angel’s program this week when we deliver the new bicycles.  I think I am also correct, that Pete and Loni gathered up all the pet food & supplies and delivered it thanks to them too! I know there are bunch more of our PHabulous club members that gave and help deliver and we want to thank them all for their kindness and generosity!

Come join us for our meeting this Wednesday at Whiskey Joe's! We'll have some great raffle prizes and it'll give you a chance to be with your PHamily.

Put 12/29/10 on your calendar! Our 5th Wednesday will be at Whiskey Joe's to celebrate New Years Parrot Head style! We'll have live music and lots of PHun.

Twas the night before Christmas, and all through Key West,

Twas the night before Christmas, and all through Key West,
Not a creature was stirring, not even the houseguest.
No stockings were hung by chimneys this time,
No need for a chimney in the Southernmost clime.

Tourists were nestled all snug in their beds,
While tunes from the Conch Train danced in their heads.
Mama in her Kino's and I in bare feet,
Settled down with mojitos for a sweet Christmas treat.

When out in the harbor there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from my hammock to see what was the matter!
Out to the porch I stumbled through clutter,
Cranked open the jalousie and threw up the shutter.

The moon through the palm trees beamed galore,
And gave a luster of midday to the cruise boats offshore.
When what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a miniature sleigh with eight tiny Key deer.

With a little old driver, so quick to honk,
I new in a moment it must be St. Conch.
More rapid than powerboats, his Key deer flew,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called to them, too.

Now, Mira! Now Lewis! Now Bethel and Curry!
On Wardlow! On McCoy, On Spotswood.... HURRY!
From the end of North Roosevelt, to the foot of Duval,
Now, dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!"

Like banana leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with a sunset, there up in the sky.
Up to my widow's walk the Key deer they flew,
With a sleigh full of mangoes, and ole St. Conch too.

And then in a twinkling, I heard on the roof,
The disco-like beat of each tiny hoof.
As I drew in my head and was turning around,
Down the gumbo limbo, the ole conch came with a bound.

On his shoulder he carried an iguana with warts;
Wore a souvenir T-shirt and little red shorts.
He wore flip-flops and sported a palm frond chapeau,
Carried a Pina Colada with an umbrella to go.

He was puffing away on a Cuban cigar,
Blowing rings toward Havana, over the bar.
Even though his get-up made me think, "Yikes!"
His snowy white beard said "Hemingway Look-Alikes".

A bundle of coconuts he held with great care,
So he looked like a vendor from Mallory Square.
His eyes how they twinkled! His slow Southern drawl,
Revealed he'd been bar-hopping down on Duval.

He worked fast and furious, without a flub-a,
Leaving little presents, for each and every Bubba.
Then laying a finger aside his sunburned nose,
Giving a big nod, up the gumbo limbo he rose.

He sprang to his sleigh and his Key deer they fled
Right up U.S.1 toward Homestead.
And I heard him exclaim as he soared past Key West Bight,
Merry Christmas to all, have a happy Conch night.
